The 3,798 metre-high Grossglockner is the highest mountain in Austria and extends across the Hohe Tauern National Park in a protective manner. Here, the local vultures fly impressively around over the Rauriser Kruml Valley, the glacier wind blows coolly down from the Schmiedingerkees onto Salzburg's highest viewing platform, while the Krimml waterfalls plunge hundreds of metres down into the depths.

With 266 three-thousand-metre peaks and 342 glaciers, nature plays an outstanding role here. The Hohe Tauern National Park is the largest nature reserve in Central Europe and invites you to discover its treasures and secrets on beautiful hikes. For those who want to go on an extended hike, the new Hohe Tauern Panorama Trail is just the right place. As part of ten daily stages, hikers cover a distance of 150 kilometres from the starting point at the foot of the Krimml waterfalls to Lake Zell.
